Defence AI is often sold as a cloud dashboard. Useful for after-action review — brittle for real-time perception and control when links are contested or classified networks limit what can leave the edge.
Why edge, not only cloud
- Latency — control loops cannot round-trip to a distant region.
- Availability — denied, degraded, intermittent, limited (DDIL) links are normal.
- Sovereignty — training data, weights, and inference logs may be restricted.
Design rules we use
- Prefer on-device inference for perception and short-horizon planning.
- Make cloud optional: sync when policy and bandwidth allow — never as a hard dependency.
- Own the model pipeline: data curation, evaluation, and redeploy under Indian control.
